Wondering how to collect runic tablets from wildlife in Diablo 4 – Chronicling the Old Ways quest? A chat with Moreg in Laglend Fen just south of Firebreak Manor in Scosglen reveals a curious series of events – the wildlife in Gaothmar Grasslands have taken to eating the druids’ runic tablets, which contain some of the earliest written works of their druidic ancestors. Moreg tasks you with confronting the wildlife and retrieving these tablets, kickstarting the Chronicling the Old Ways side quest.

To get runic tablets in Diablo 4, you’ll need to reach the marked area in and kill the wildlife there. While the open world has plenty of wildlife, the Firebreak Manor is the closest Waypoint so we recommend starting from there. Head west from the Waypoint into The Witan Wolds. Once you pass the threshold into the Wolds, go north in the area marked by a light blue line and you’ll notice red dots appear on your mini-map, denoting wildlife, specifically Wildwood tree creatures.

They typically spawn in groups of two or three sided by Blood Clan Marauders and the odd Blood Clan Maulers. Each group isn't guaranteed to drop a runic tablet, so you may need to defeat more to get the three runic tablets needed for the Chronicling the Old Ways side quest. Once you’ve gathered up the runic tablets, head back to the quest marker southeast of the Firebreak Manor Waypoint in Laglend Fen to deliver them to Moreg. You’ll earn XP and gold for your efforts, which you can use to buy armors, weapons and other unique items.
