Knowing how to change appearance in Diablo 4 will allow you to make the most of the game's comprehensive transmog system and character appearance tuning options to customise your character to your liking. As with any action-RPG worth its salt, Diablo 4 lets you port the visual appearance of pieces of gear to others while maintaining the stats and buffs of the receiving item.
We’ll walk you through how to change appearance in Diablo 4, which is surprisingly straightforward once you know how it's done. If you’re looking to pad out your coffers, make sure you know how to get gold fast in Diablo 4 and how to salvage gear in Diablo 4.
To change appearance in Diablo 4, you’ll need to interact with the Wardrobe in one of the bigger cities and settlements across Sanctuary. Wardrobes appear on the map as two-doored cabinets. For example, in Kyovashad, the Wardrobe is found just north of the city's Waypoint and just west of the World Tier statue.
The Wardrobe takes you to a dedicated transmog menu that changes both the look and pigment (or colour) of your gear. Click on a piece of gear you want to change the appearance of under the Armor portion of the screen, then select click on a variant from the options below to apply the look and transmog the piece. After selecting a variant, and if the piece supports it, you can then change the pigment in the section at the bottom of the menu.
Much like the gear transmog system, you can change the appearance of your character in Diablo 4 by interacting with any of the Wardrobes across Sanctuary. Click on the Wardrobe, then select ‘Appearance’ at the top of the screen. You’ll then have the option to change your character's makeup, jewellery, markings, and markings colour.
If you’re just starting your Diablo 4 journey, you’ll have likely noticed the many locked looks under the variant section of the Wardrobe. To unlock a new gear appearance variant, you’ll need to salvage gear at a Blacksmith. You can do this for any piece of gear that features a small hammer when viewed at the Blacksmith. Click on the hammer in the left-hand window, then click on the gear you want to extract the look from in your inventory in the right-hand window. After doing this, the gear's appearance will be available to use in the Wardrobe.
Now you know how to change appearance in Diablo 4, learn how to leave dungeons in Diablo 4, how to get more healing potions in Diablo 4, and how to get a mount in Diablo 4 to cover more ground quicker when out exploring Sanctuary.
