Fruits and vegetables are a great source of essential nutrients associated with several health benefits. However, only a minority of the global population consumes the recommended dosage (five servings a day) and the campaigns to support and increase the intake have had limited success1.

Provided that juices should not replace whole fruits and vegetables, they still are a tasty and easy way to intake all the benefits of fruit bring several benefits.

According to an article that appeared in Nutritional Review in 20191, the authors suggest juices are a good source of vitamin C, carotenoids, and polyphenols and one portion of fruit juice per day may help people achieve the recommended daily intake of fruits and vegetables. Also, one-quarter cup of pure 100% fruit juice can satisfy one of the four to five servings of fruits and vegetables per day that the American Heart Association recommends3.

Unfortunately, besides many beneficial effects associated with fruit juice, there are also some possible downsides concerning fibers, sugar, and weight management.

The content of fibers in juices is usually not as high as in raw vegetables or fruit. Accordingly, it does not fulfill daily dietary recommendations of the USA Department of Agriculture (for females, at least 28 g of dietary fiber per day, and for males 34 g per day3. In addition, conventional juice powders normally contain added sugars (sucrose, maltodextrins), artificial colors and flavors, with "juice concentrate" being last in a typical ingredient's breakdown. This may contribute to weight gain in children and adults, and also to diabetes in adults.

With an international patent for stabilizing blood sugar and anti-hygroscopic, MCB - a company from Taiwan with more than 30 years of experience in micro-encapsulation and spray-drying - has recently launched an innovative and unique line of fruit juice powders, with very high real juice content (75-80%); thanks to an advanced spray drying process, it maintains original and natural fruit juice flavours.

FiberJuicesTM contain four types of prebiotics: three dietary fibers — inulin, acacia gum, indigestible malto-dextrins — and one oligosaccharide.

They contain no additional synthetic and artificial colouring and additives at all, and do not contribute to weight gain as 0% sucrose is added; sucrose is completely replaced by natural sweet and low-GI fructose from the fruit itself.

Micro-encapsulation is a technology that is very challenging in the food industry, as the sensory qualities of foods cannot be compromised by the addition of encapsulated components.

Micro-encapsulation provides controlled release of the active products, masks unpleasant odor and taste, and allows the encapsulated material to be distributed in a food formulation homogeneously.

In the case of FiberJuice, under optimal conditions to conduct spray drying, its three selected dietary fibres and one oligosaccharide blend homogeneously with juice solid and use their own unique structural characteristics to micro-encapsulate the juice solid.

This technique provides fine particles with excellent free-flowing properties; also, the fruit powders maintain blood glucose stability and have excellent anti-hygroscopicity.

FiberJuice Juice Powders are unique fruit powders for a complete range of real and healthy flavours, with up to 80% of juice. This content cannot be found in any other spray-dried juice powders currently on the market.
