Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom

Want to speed up Link's exploration in Tears of the Kingdom? Give these recipes

Want to speed up Link's exploration in Tears of the Kingdom? Give these recipes a try.

Making food is an essential part of playing The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Players need to prepare Link for any eventuality, whether facing a particularly strong foe in combat, using a hefty amount of Stamina, or sneaking up on enemies. However, one boost that often gets overlooked is Speed. Hasty meals put Link on super fast mode by increasing his movement speed, which can be a lifesaver for players when farming items or climbing high rock faces.

While players can make Elixirs using critters like Hot-Footed Frogs and Hightail Lizards in Tears of the Kingdom, numerous meals increase Link's speed anywhere from 4 to 30 minutes with a variety of ingredients. These recipes include special materials that are surprisingly easy to get.

Hasty Simmered Fruit is easy to make, consisting of Fleet-Lotus Seeds. However, if players are after an extra duration boost, all they need to do is add a dash of Monster Extract to increase Link's Speed for half an hour. This mixture is perfect for traversal over a long period of time or through flat areas of Hyrule like the Gerudo Desert.

Fleet-Lotus Seeds are found in water. They are common around the Lanayru region in places like Zora's Domain and the Lanayru Wetlands, in addition to shallow ponds throughout Hyrule. Vials of Monster Extract can either be purchased from Fyson in Tarrey Town or as a reward from Kilton for completing the "A Monstrous Collection" side adventure.

Any skewer can work in a pinch for Link, and with an added boost, they’re even more valuable. Hasty Mushroom Skewers can be made by cooking just Rushrooms, but by adding a Dragon Horn, players can boost the initial duration up to 30 minutes. Horns can be farmed from any four of the dragons flying the skies of Hyrule: Naydra, Farosh, Dinraal, or the Light Dragon.

Rushrooms can be found very early on while exploring the Great Sky Island, and on the surface, they grow on cliff faces around Hyrule. As for the Dragon Horns, they’re relatively easy to get so long as players have enough Stamina and the right outfits/elixirs/meals to help in each circumstance. All players need to do is locate them, get enough height, and skydive onto their head. Then it's a matter of shooting the horn, which should fall and land on their head while Link still rides the dragon.

If players have some Raw Prime Meat on hand, they can combine it with a bunch of Swift Violets to make a Hasty meal that will provide 4 and a half minutes of Speed. This meal is great to use in combat, as the time won't be wasted.

While this recipe only restores three hearts, the focus is obviously on the Speed aspect. And the main ingredient is easy to find, as Swift Violets often appear alongside Rushrooms on cliff faces in Gerudo Canyon, the Cliffs of Ruvara in the Gerudo Highlands, and the icy Hebra Mountain Region. Raw Prime Meat is primarily obtained through hunting medium-sized animals in Tears of the Kingdom, which includes wolves, deer, and boar, but can also be sourced from larger animals like bears and moose.

Hylian Rice can be used to make an abundance of things, including Hasty Mushroom Rice Balls. One Hylian Rice combined with four Rushrooms will provide a 5-minutes Speed boost for Link, perfect for climbing and combat. It's a simple meal to make and requires minimal ingredients. Not only that, but it restores a hefty amount of hearts.

Hylian Rice can be bought from most merchants throughout Hyrule or harvested in the wild. To harvest Hylian Rice, players need to find areas with long grass and cut them with a sword. The drop rate for Hylian Rice is pretty random, but if players find a wetland area or shallow pond with long grass, Hylian Rice is more likely to drop there.

Meat skewers are a lifesaver in Tears of the Kingdom, providing Link with the right amount of hearts in any situation. Add four Rushrooms to the mix, and players will be blessed with the same Speed as the Hasty Steamed Meat recipe while replenishing 7 hearts.

Rushrooms and Raw Prime Meat are easy to source in the early game, so long as players get into the habit of picking up everything they see and not selling everything immediately. Nevertheless, it's always a good port of call to have at least ten of anything just in case it's needed for a meal, side quest, or to enhance armor.

Tossing some Swift Carrots and an Ancient Arowana into a pot will create a Hasty Steamed Fish dish that boosts Speed for 4 and a half minutes, in addition to restoring a plentiful amount of hearts. Of course, players could substitute the Ancient Arowana for a Hyrule Bass, but using any other fish would cancel out the Speed-boosting effect.

Swift Carrots can be purchased in Kakariko Village at High Spirits Produce after completing the "Codgers’ Quarrel" side quest, and can also be bought from the traveling merchant Parga and East Wind in Hateno Village.

Swift Carrots can be combined with Hylian Rice to create Hasty Veggie Rice Balls, creating a surprisingly substantial meal. The recipe provides the same amount of hearts as meat would in this instance, giving Link 6 hearts. As for the Speed boost, Hasty Veggie Rice Balls lasts for 5 minutes.

While Swift Carrots can be purchased from merchants around Hyrule, these veggies can also be found in the wild. One place Link will find some is the east side of Satori Mountain on Hyrule Ridge. However, they are pretty a rare vegetable, so if players come across them, they should pick them up.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is available now on Nintendo Switch.
