We're in the zone-ai

The Zonai are integral to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, but not just for story and lore. Their technology can also be a key part of your adventure, and we want to tell you all about the Zonai devices you can find around the world.

This ancient race was technologically advanced compared to the Hyrule of today, and following the Upheaval, you can find many of their devices across Hyrule. If you want to know more about the Zonai Tribe, check out our (rather spoiler-y) look at them.

Otherwise, here's our guide on how to use Zonai devices, a list of all Zonai devices, and where to find each type.

A Zonai device is a piece of machinery or technology created by the Zonai that you can use with Energy Cells.

Zonai devices can either be found lying around the world or inside little Zonai capsules that you can get from Device Dispensers.

First of all, you need to have energy in your Energy Cells. You get given an Energy Cell, containing three Energy Wells, during the tutorial on the Great Sky Island. But to use more devices for longer periods of time, you need to increase your battery. Find out how to do that in our Energy Cells guide.

Otherwise, all you need to do is put the device down and either hit it (with a weapon or arrow) or interact with it. The Wings in particular don't need

If it's a capsule you want to use, go into your inventory — either the quick menu with up (then sort with Y to get Zonai devices up front) or by pressing X to enter the main menu — select the device you want and press the Drop button to get it out of the capsule.

Capsules are a one-time-use Zonai device. You can carry these in your inventory, but once you drop them/open the capsule, you won't be able to pocket that item again. You can get capsules from Device Dispensers or in treasure chests across Hyrule.

Device Dispensers look a little bit like gachapon machines, but they're a lot nicer. These will give you the capsules you need to use during your adventure.

Most of these are found in the Sky, although there are two on the surface and there's an additional one in the Depths. In the Sky, they're mostly found on islands that are also home to a Shrine — look out for islands that have one circle and four long platforms coming out of them, as these are the most common locations. They appear as a little seafoam green circle on the map.

When you find a Device Dispenser, you need to drop in Zonai Charges. You can use both ordinary and Large Zonai Charges, both of which you can pick up from defeating Constructs, examining decayed Constructs in the Sky, or exchanging Zonaite at the Forges in the Depths.

You can drop in five Charges at a time, and the more charges you give, the more capsules you'll get back. You can't pick what capsules you get, but each Dispenser has a pool of devices it can give you. We'll list where you can get each device in the section below.

Here are how many capsules you can get depending on how many charges you drop into the machine:

Initially, you can only get capsules from Device Dispensers or chests. However, later on in the game, you apparently can buy Zonai devices.

We'll let you know as soon as we verify for ourselves where and when you can do this, but this is the only way to get Big Batteries outside of finding them in chests.

Below is a list of all Zonai devices, where you can find them, and what you use them for.

Remember, you can sort the table out alphabetically by clicking on the header.

Of course, the TOTK community is hugely creative with Zonai devices, and we're just listing a few basic uses for them. We've got a fantastic round-up of some of the most creative builds we've seen, so have a look at that for some inspiration.
