Encaustic wax is an ancient medium containing beeswax and resin. It can be pigmented with a variety of materials and used to create prints, paintings or 3D finishes. Three of NKollectiv's member artists use this medium on a regular basis and they invited other local artists to join them for the encaustic exhibition Apis Opus, opening with a public reception from 6-9 p.m. May 19, at 960 Santa Fe Drive. The exhibition runs through June 11. Other district-wide events during the exhibition include the Sundays on Santa Fe Art Walk from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 28, and the First Friday Art Walk from 5-9 p.m. June 2.

The exhibition is named for the common genus of the honey bee in North America, apis.

Participating artists include NKollectiv owner Nicole Korbe and members Kelly Austin-Rolo, Michele Messenger along with guest artists Angela Larson, Ashton Lacy Jones, Gigia Kolouch, Kathy Fisher, Lois Lupica, Melody Epperson, Shannon Mello, and Victoria Eubanks.
