Amazon slashes the price of Echo Dots, Tablets and Fire TVs in surprise tech sale
Amazon is selling its own-brand tech products at some of the cheapest prices
Amazon is selling its own-brand tech products at some of the cheapest prices we've seen in the pre-Amazon Prime Day sale
Amazon has launched a surprise sale across its own brand tech including the biggest discount of £140 on its range of Fire TVs, as well as popular Echo Dot devices reduced to £30. We've rounded up the products with the biggest discounts as well as the different places to find the deals.
The current device sale has come as a surprise to many consumers, as the retailer's major sale events typically happen at the end of summer, Black Friday, and towards Christmas each year.
Recently it launched a 'surprise' sale on selected tech products which shoppers could only find if they manually searched for each product. This brought the new Google Pixel 7 Pro handset down by £212 down to £685, despite other UK retailers charging customers the usual £845 price, and it's still available now.

The price drops are expected to stick around for the whole of June, before the lead-up to Amazon Prime Day 2023 which is likely to fall on July 11 and 12, although the date is yet to be officially confirmed.
Amazon has launched the price drops on its own brand tech, but this can be easily distinguished as being any device backed by its signature Alexa, be it the Echo Dot, Fire TV and tablets.
Not as widely known is its price drops on 'Amazon Choice' products too which has seen items like this £300 Toshiba Smart Fire TV reduced to £229.
The Fire 7 is one of many tablets reduced in the current device sales, where shoppers can also find £35 off the Fire HD 8, £45 off the Fire HD 10 and £35.99 off the Fire HD 8 Plus model.
We've focused on the 2022 release of the Fire 7 tablet, as it's one of the cheapest on offer but has consistently been praised for its quality, speed and battery life. Including our own reviews team who highlighted its 'better battery life and faster processor the smallest Amazon tablet now punches above its weight'.
In his review, Justin Connolly said: "The first thing you notice when you pick up the new and improved Amazon Fire 7 tablet is how it feels in the hand. In the past, Amazon's tablets have felt a little bit, well, cheap.
"That's all changed with the new 7 – it feels more robust than it looks when you get up close. I’ve been testing one for a week or so, and I can tell you that the improvements do not stop there. We have a 2GHz quad-core processor and 2GB of RAM inside now, which makes for a more responsive feel across the board.
"Battery life has also been improved and the device can now go for up to 10 hours on a single charge. This makes the device so much more usable than the previous version... which simply did not last long enough when away from a charging source. Another plus is the switch to USB-C charging - meaning you might just be able to get by with one fewer cable."
The Amazon Fire TV 50-inch 4 Series has the biggest discount with £140 off, more than double the discount compared to its other discounted Fire TV 2 Series, now £179.99.
Amazon only launched its own range of satellite-free streaming TVs earlier this year as an upgrade from its usual plug-in (and much cheaper) Fire Stick products. Since the launch in March, users have branded the sets a budget-friendly option compared to Sky's more expensive Glass TVs, but both products offer very similar qualities.
Fitted with 4K, Dolby Digital audio, HDR, shoppers can choose from sizes starting from 32-inch. Prices do rise depending on the size of the screen as the 40-inch version of the Fire TV 2 Series is reduced by £70 to £229.
Select Amazon Fire Sticks are also on sale, an alternative product for shoppers on a smaller budget but still looking to stream TV series, films and the likes of Netflix. The Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Max is reduced to £38.99 from an original £64.99 and can be plugged into any TV as long as it has an HDMI port.
An Echo Dot is Amazon's classic smart speaker and is often well known for its Alexa voice-controlled features, which users can use to play music, answer questions, make calls and get the latest weather reports (to name a few features).
Select Echo Dot devices are discounted in the sale including the Echo Dot 5th Generation, Echo Dot 4th Generation, Echo Show 8 and the Echo Dot Kids.
The biggest discount can be found on the 5th Generation with 36% off, bringing the price down from £54.99 to £34.99, closely followed by the 4th generation device which is now £79.99.
This is what our reviewer, Editor Stephen Hurrell, had to say about using the smart speaker at home.
He said: "Setting it up was simple. You switch it on and then follow the instructions to connect it with an app on your phone. There you can search for skills and add them to your account.
"Within minutes you will have access to the football scores, latest news updates, information from the internet or just your music library on Amazon Music or Spotify.
"The new Amazon Echo 4th generation is up there with the best home devices on the market and while it does not include video (The Echo Show has a screen) it does everything you need from an Echo device and it does it well."
