WHAT IT IS: The Ford Ranger Tremor—the package introduced for the previous-generation 2021 truck, not the original one from the early 2000s—was an off-road package that offered a small lift, Fox 2.0 monotube shocks, 32-inch General Grabber all-terrain tires, painted wheels and grille, unique fender flares, rear recovery hooks, locking rear differential (in two-wheel drive), hook side steps, and spurts of flair. It was powered by the Ranger's sole offering at the time, the 2.3-liter EcoBoost I-4 engine (270 hp, 310 lb-ft of torque) backed by a 10-speed automatic transmission.

WHY IT MATTERS: The Ford Ranger Tremor is a relatively affordable entry-point to a rad factory off-road Ranger. From the Maverick to the Super Duty, all of Ford's trucks have been Tremor'd and are mighty fine lookin' and performing off-roaders.

To be clear: there is definitely a 2024 Ford Ranger Raptor, but there has been no official confirmation that there will be a new-gen 2024 Ford Ranger Tremor. We think there will be—heck, Ford sells the snot outta these things and there is an overseas Tremor currently—but we've never had a state-side Ranger Raptor until now, so we can't say with certainty how the top-dog Raptor will impact Ford's strategy with the Ranger Tremor. It would, however, be very surprising if Ford dropped the Ranger Tremor, and the F-150 Raptor and F-150 Tremor indicate the two can co-exist nicely.

One source of confusion regarding the Ranger Tremor comes from a Body Builders Layout Book that surfaced on a Ranger6G.com forum thread. The document seemingly initially referenced the Tremor and in another spot the 2.7-liter twin-turbocharged V-6 (making 315 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque), but there's no sign of either in an updated version (found here) published on May 31.

There is currently no Ranger Tremor or 2.7-liter on the 2024 Ranger configurator. The absence of the engine is probably because it's "late availability" on the XLT and Lariat trims, and the lack of Tremor is because Ford doesn't want it there. Yet? Or ever? Time will tell.

PLATFORM AND POWERTRAIN: It's unlikely the Ford Ranger Tremor would get the 3.0-liter twin-turbo V-6 (405 hp, 430 lb-ft of torque) of the Ranger Raptor. Since the new overseas Tremor is based on the XLT trim (with the 2.7-liter V-6 offered here), could this be the standard engine for Tremor? Could we see the Tremor become four-wheel drive only? Could it run a 285/70R17 tire, as indicated before the Body Builders Layout Book was updated, the same size as the Ranger Raptor's BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A K03 tires, or did the document simply go haywire?

ESTIMATED PRICE: Unknown, but less than the Ranger Raptor's $56,960.

EXPECTED ON-SALE DATE: Not confirmed to exist; Fall 2023/Winter 2024 estimate.
